The Indiana Senate Judiciary Committee passed Senate Joint Resolution 13 Jan. 20 by a 6-4 vote, according to a release from Indiana Equality. The measure, also known as the Marriage Discrimination Amendment because it would ban same-sex marriage in the state, is now eligible for consideration by the entire Senate.
Sens. Richard Bray, Joseph Zakas, Randy Head, Travis Holdman, Scott Schneider and Brent Steele voted in favor of the resolution; Sens. Tim Lanane, Lonnie Randolph, Greg Taylor and John Broden voted against it. Sen. Ronnie Alting was not in the room for the vote.
According to the Huffington Post, the Republican-dominated Indiana state Senate probably will pass the resolution. However, the Indiana House is controlled by Democrats, who have killed the proposal every year since 2006.
